Hooks?

okay, I am interested in hooks but i couldnt find any good tutorial
for it. I googled it but most of that sites that i come across is very
vague and just describes what it does, it doesn't teach how to use
it... The best i can scavange is that that you have to set a hook with
the function "setwindowshookex" using the "windows.h" library. Can
someone show/tell/recommand me a site/document/book that best explains
hooks and how to use it?
